As the end of the year closes fast, my foreign comic purchasing is slowing down to a crawl. I've got some modern Mexican foils' on the way .. but that's it until 2019. Meanwhile, here is the book that finally completes my Australian Cap Newton Comics run (and which also came complete with Hulk poster).

I really like the green color. Unusual and nice! Here is a Edição Gep Extra n°1, which works as the first stand alone Brazilian Silver Surfer comic book. Brings the contents of USA Silver Surfer 1 and 2: upload picture

Hello to all. Hope you had a nice Christmas and a great New Year. A couple days before Christmas a found this little treasure in sebo (stores that sell used books, comic books, dvds, etc): Currently is very hard to find comics over 30 years or so in sebos and that makes this finding very special. This is a Gea's Iron Man n°3, the last of three Iron Man's issues that Gea published. Gea is a small publisher that took over control over several Marvel's publications in 1972. As far as I remember, only Spider-Man continued being published by Ebal. It didn't last, no character had more than three issues. Hulk had a single edition, Daredevil, Iron Man and Fantastic Four three issues, Submariner and Thor two issues. For being a small publisher, the number of printed copies was far lower than most Ebal's comics, with make then hard to find (and expensive!) This issue reprints Iron Man 39, that would be reprinted only once more in Bloch's Homem de Ferro n° 16. The Hulk edition is the rarest of all Gea's Marvel comics. I would put that Hulk on the second tier of the rarest Marvel's Brazilian comics. This issue on the third tier. BTW: I will try to join the Facebook's group. My name there is Alexandre.

Now adding a little text to the Silver Surfer edition. While Ebal introduced most of main Marvel Characters in Brazil in 1967, a couple of characters were ignored by Ebal. A small publisher called Gep took over a couple of ignored The X-men were certain the most important "asset". The others were the Silver Surfer and Captain Marvel.
Gep started publishing them in a curious manner in the end 1968. It published all this characters in a single title, called "Edições Gep" (Gep Editions). The first eight issues were dedicated to the X-Men, then Silver Surfer had number nine for him, number ten I don't remember, but it was not Marvel material. Overall there was 23 issues. with numbers one to eight being dedicated to the X-Men, as the numbers 13,14 and 19. Silver Surfer had numbers 9, 17 and 20. Captain Marvel had numbers 11,15 and 21. The rest was not Marvel related material.
However, probably between this eight X-men issues, Gep introduced an extra edition edition. Dedicated fully to Silver Surfer, it was the third apparition of the Silver Surfer here on Brazil. It is a very special issue, more difficult to find than the regular issues. I would put it on the second tier of rarest Marvel's Brazilian comics. This issue, together with the seventeen Edições Gep and the two Superalmanaque X-Men comprises all Gep's marvel comics.

Hello to all. Remember when I said that is hard to find comics of more than thirty years old in "sebos" (places that sell old books, comic books, dvds, etc) here in Brazil? It is......and that's why I am now sure that I am in the middle of a lucky streak! I went into one of my favorite "sebo" this Sunday. I previously found, in the bottom a pile of comics, that was hidden behind another pile, the issues 4,7,9,10,11,14 and 18 of Abril's Captain America. I went back to this sebo a couple of times, but I was never able to give a look in all its comics. This Sunday I returned there once more, and found another pile of comics hind behind a lot of modern comics. There I found these four Flash Gordon comics from the 60's. Although with visible flaws, the first three are in quite good shape for a bunch of Brazilian's comics from the 60's that were abandoned many years ago. The last one is not in such good shape, since its square bound spine is gone, reinforced with tape. It's an "Almanaque" with since nearly the inception of Brazil's comic book industry (until middle 70's), has been the equivalent of USA's annual edition (occasionally only a special edition, specially for Disney stuff). They always had at least one of these features: more pages, square bound spine, partially or fully in color, plasticized cover for newer editions, etc. Due to that, they were always deemed in high regard by collectors, even though they are usually easier than find than the regular editions (also for the children back in the times! Can you imagine the kids happiness when receiving their special edition with many more pages and occasionally fully colorful histories? Priceless!). As a bonus it enters my top 9 of oldest comics that I have! Here, comics from the very end of 60's are usually fairly easy to find on sale in Brazil's main auction/selling site, however, they start to became progressively harder to find as one looks back in the 60's. Earlier than 63/64, they are already much harder to find, the chance to find a certain issue on sale must be approaching 50% !. I also find Batman 6, Vol 3 from Ebal from beginning of 70's, an Aquaman 1 and a 1955's comics! I did not buy them, because they were in pretty bad shape, especially the Aquaman and the 1955 comics. I may give the Batman's a chance next time!

I like especially cover's artwork from this edition and the one from the last one that I posted.

It's from June, 1967. I'm fairly certain that it is original story and art, but I am not positive. The cover artist is Reed Crandall. You can find out more about it here: www.comics.org/issue/21055/

Finally completed my Avengers Newton Australian run, with the addition of this yesterday. It took me ages to find .. and then when I did, the seller refused to ship it to the U.K. Thank goodness that another Australian contact bought it for me and shipped it out ..

I'm quite proud of this one for a couple of reasons. It's the lowest graded comic that I own .. and it's the only 'Tales of Suspense' #32 issue that CGC have graded .. and also doubly proud that it's a U.K. Pence Edition

Anyway, it looks great, detached cover or not!

The thing that I really love though, is that whatever country .. CGC has zero copies of this graded in their system (regardless of grade).

Nice comic Ken. I love seeing these old pence variants as they always bring a smile of joy and nostalgia to my face when I see them because these are the ones I remember as a boy. The smile is always accompanied by a pang of regret that I do not have them still .

Thanks for reply Ken. Rather than growing my collection I am slowly selling it off on eBay as I have no family with any interest in comics and when I finally reach my expiry date the said books will probably end up in the skip or given to a charity shop . I am on eBay UK as waterweavercomics and have some really high grade X-Men pence copies in CBCS slabs. If your pence collector friend, or anyone else on this site is interested I would offer 10% discount plus free UK postage if 2 or more slabs are bought.I would offer the same 10% discount to foreign buyers and postage at cost. NB PLEASE CONTACT ME FIRST AND DO NOT USE EBAY'S GSP AS THEY DO NOT COMBINE POSTAGE.

I usually do not care much about these "extra" that comes with comics: stickers, cards, posters, etc..., nonetheless this poster looks really sweet! And unorthodox size comic books are far more cool than the usual comics we see everyday. Would like to have a copy of my own.
P.S: A new batch of comics arrived yesterday. Will soon start to post some images of them, as some pictures from material of previous batches that I did not post yet!

Ken, no. I need to find a complete issue!!! I found a picture of the poster and it looks incredible!! And I wanted to show off the centerfold from #4. I think it's incredible!!! But I can't find any info on who drew it. If anyone knows, I'd love to figure it out!!! Jesse. This site may be of some help : dezskinn.com/marvel-uk Derek (Dez) Skinn was a publisher and Editor of a lot of Marvel reprint titles in the 70s. He's retired now of course but if you contact him I'm sure that he'll be more than happy to help with your artist query.Stephen.

Let's start with some Cap: I got these in a batch from an auction website. They came in worst shape than I expected. Number 2 is with the inner pages detached from the covers. Number 3 is with the central centerfold detached. Still the eye appeal is quite good in both IMO (especially number two with the yellow background) and the bellow average price made it a good business! From 1970, the number 2 corresponds to USA Cap 128 and number to Cap 127. No idea as to why the swapped the order! Now to something different: This series was made to compile full miniseries into a single issue. The first one compiles the X-men vs Avengers miniseries, the second compiles the Saga of The Original Human Torch (this one is in quite high grade) and the last one brings a compilation of Deadly Foes of Spider-Man. This last one also in quite good shape. Since I had numbers 3,6 and 7, now I only need number one to complete the run! From beginning of 90s. The best for last. My first Mexican comic book! A middle grade issue with quite a nice eye appeal. The writing on cover bothers me very little. I am usually a fan of yellow backgrounds in comic books covers, and here is no different. Also, I quite like the fonts used to write the title. The "EN" from Editorial Novaro in the upper left corner is quite pleasant. From 1980 And finally... Uncle Scrooge is my favorite comic character and I have more key and rare comics from him than from any other character. So I could not let this opportunity pass by me. This hard court deluxe edition was launched in 1976 and compiles several key histories from him, like Old Secret Castle and Back to Klondike. Still, more stuff is left to be posted. I will try to post it in the next days.
