Below is an excerpt from a post of mine in the Silver Age threads, which I have posted here so as to ensure that the owners of this site have a better chance of reading it.
Hmm, it appears that I have forgotten already how to upload photos. Coming soon.
EDIT.Well I've just spent the last half hour trying all the ways I know to upload an image but to no avail.
EDIT. I did manage to upload some pictures a few weeks ago after being coached by Jesse and Ken but how I did it eludes me at the moment even after revisiting the advice given by said two chaps.
EDIT. Well it's over an hour later and I have been all over the internet researching the ways to upload images to a site such as this. My conclusion is that I was lucky the last time that the scans I uploaded were less than the 1mb limit, and the one I was trying to upload is 1.3mb.
So I have come to the conclusion that this site is not fit for purpose, this is meant to be constructive criticism and not in anyway meant to be abusive. I presume that the founders of this site bought an "off the shelf" software package and did not have it specially commissioned. We are discussing a visual medium here and uploading photos should be as easy as it is on dozens of other sites that I frequent. The fact that even the founders/moderators admit to having difficulty uploading images speaks volumes.

I have to agree with you redshade. I do not know if there is a "fix" to this. Perhaps Ken can offer more insight. I just know how to load pictures from pinterest, and it is a pain. It would be nice to be able to download direct from my computer. I'll look into it further this week and see if there a feature available to do it. I will update here.

Test
Edit: here is an easier method. You need to go to the "reply" box and NOT the "quick reply" that is already available. There, you will see a box that says "add image to post". When you click on that, it will open a popup. From there, you can download a picture from your computer. When you click on the "post" button, the picture will show up on the thread as a thumbnail like the picture above. When someone clicks on that picture, it will open the host site image. It's not a perfect fix, but it is easier and free!!! To upgrade this site to one where you can download directly to it (without a host), would cost someone a monthly payment. I don't know if anyone is willing to do that at this point. Quite honestly, I live on a fixed income and one more monthly payment is not something I need.

Hi Jesse, I tried what you said but when I got to the "add image to post" I did get a pop-up but when I tried it, it only transferred a line of url code which did not work when clicked on. I had a little bit of an experiment and found that when I opened the afore mentioned pop-up along with the image in my laptop that I could drag the image across with the results as seen below. Phew! What a palaver. I think that the founders of this site bought an off the peg "chat room" forum without looking into the finer points of what users would expect from it.

You are quite possibly correct in that. I have never looked at setting up a forum, so I have no idea what is out there.
As for the URL line, that is what I got also. All I had to do was click on the "upload" button and it posted the picture.
I do like how the image pops up and I can enlarge it on my computer. I was able to see your comic quite nicely. It does look like a great comic!!
I hope that by having the button fairly visible, it makes it a little easier to upload pictures. I'm kind of curious how it is from a phone. By that, I mean that I wonder if you have to drag a picture like you did, or if you can browse a folder like I did. Either way, it is a LOT easier from my standpoint. I no longer have to add pics to pinterest and copy urls.

Hi Jesse.
Apart from the difficulty of uploading images, I think that this site has problems with user accessibility. The CBCS model of having recent posts visible at the top of the landing page is the more user friendly interface in my opinion.
I realise that a new site is going to have teething problems at first but a "Foreign Comic" site such as this deserves to be given a chance, especially as I cannot see any similar sites online.

I happen to agree, but I know the CGC forum is set up this way as well. It took me a while to figure that one out, but I got used to it. I can see points for having it arranged this way, but it does add an extra step. If the site grows, I can see having to update the whole works. It is my hope to help be a part of growing this site large enough and active enough to warrant those changes.

I do understand your frustration, but if your pics are hosted elsewhere it's an absolute piece of cake to get images to post. It should work just fine from Pinterest if you put the URL in the 'Insert Image' tab (not in the 'Quick Post', I'll add). Admittedly, you will be doing what is generally called 'Hot Linking', but it will work (all you're doing is providing a web address of where to find the pic, rather than actually uploading the pic itself). Anyway, if I feel added input from me is needed, I'll step-in; otherwise I'll let Jesse carry-on.

One other thing, this forum was the best solution from many that we looked at. Yes, it is free .. however .. I could look into a 'Donate' button.
Having been the sole payee for our main site (not cheap), I won't be paying a monthly fee here. That's hard, economic facts.
I've seen a lot worse forums than this.

Good points Ken. I meant no disrespect. And I have also seen many worse forums!!! I have never researched forum websites, and I have no desire to. I am happy to hear that you did the legwork and found the one that best suited the needs.
If it were up to me, I'm not sure I would change it to the CBCS style of forum. Having gotten used to the CGC forum and this one, I actually like how the topics are split up. Posts about weekly buys don't get buried by announcements. People can showcase their own collections on a separate thread and it doesn't get bumped down by nonrelated threads. I was just thinking of how the site could be more user-friendly.
I completely get you not footing the bill to upgrade by yourself. I'd like to think that a donate button would help with that, but I'm not sure the support is there. As you know, a lot of people like this forum and support it verbally, but I'm not sure they'd open their wallets for it. Which is sad really, even I could afford to throw in a couple bucks a month towards it. But I'm not going to take on the responsibility of making sure it gets paid. And I'm not saying it should all be on you either!!! It's just kind of frustrating brother!!! We both know what this site could be if a few key people would be active on it.
Peace

Oh, and the ONLY reason I use pinterest is to post pictures here. So I had to download from my computer to pinterest, open that picture up and then copy and paste that url here. Now, I can use the add-on and just download from my computer to that host and have it post the picture here. It definitely will save me time and hassle!!! I'm glad Redshade brought it up, because I probably would not have looked for an add-on otherwise. LOL!!!

I've just added a 'Donation' tab. You can find it on the General Sub-Board (it's also stickied). Any money donated will go to make this forum better and help with the hosting fees for the Foreign Comic Collector website.

Ken, let me be absolutely clear that I was not meaning any disrespect to you or this site (and I certainly did not know that you were the founding father). I was just venting my frustration at my inabilities to understand modern technologies.
I am so used to eBay where one just clicks on an "add photo" button and the system automatically finds and opens one's picture file, something that even an old ignoramus such as myself can do.
As for hosting sites, well I once did try to upload some photos from my picture file to Photobucket and the system uploaded all my picture files, not just the few I had wanted to post. They were all presented out of order in a big collage of images. I had no idea how to rearrange them sequentially or in specified files and so abandoned the project.
I may look up the Pinterest site that you mention but who knows what horrors lurk for me there.

Some messageboards like CBCS allow you to upload pictures and they are paying the hosting fees for those images. Proboards can't really afford to offer that service since it survives on a dwindling ad based revenue. They aren't really selling a product and they give away the service of hosting the messageboards to attract an audience. Proboards is an easy way to setup discussions for people who share a common interest. The admins here aren't making money off the board, so asking them to pay extra for hosting the images is the equivalent of asking them to pour money down the drain. For that reason, you'll need to find a second source to host the images. Photobucket quit making money off of ads and tried to hold their customer's images for ransom. It's killed anyone's desire to use them ever again. Finding a good alternative has not been easy. www.tumblr.com/ Tumblr will work for hosting, but you have to post an image then right-click on a desktop to grab the image link. You then bring it back here and paste it with the right tags into your message here. These are being hosted by Tumblr.

It is my hope to help be a part of growing this site large enough and active enough to warrant those changes. If I use CGC it's usually just a few posts that I visit (mainly the posts about pence issues of US comics). But to see what is happening in general I go into "forums" (top left) and then "leaderboard" and the replies are in sequential order with the most recent being at the to.
