When I first got into foreign comics, a couple of my first purchases were EKS off of eBay. I was fascinated to see a Spiderman logo on a Batman cover!!! I saw them on eBay and I had to at least see what they looked like. Now, the more I look at EKS, the more I really like them. They published DC, Marvel and original comics. Here are my first two EKS. The American editions are Detective Comics #455 and Tomb of Dracula #5. More to come in the following days.

Jesse, I'm pleased to say that 'the sickness' has gotten hold of you real bad! There is no cure! The only thing to do to keep 'the sickness' at bay .. is to keep buying more foreign comics

Yes it has Ken, yes it has!!! LOL Today I want to share EKS #404. It contains the story from The Monster of Frankenstein #1 (1973, Marvel), a short Green Arrow solo story (date unknown, DC) and a few pages of regional comic characters. With this one, the editors decided to forego the US cover and took a panel from the story and turned it into the cover image. I've included the Marvel interior page for comparison.

Today I want to share a EKS comic with original content. Cat Claw is a Serbian Superheroine!! She appears in many EKS comics. But when I saw this cover, I HAD to have!! In the background, you have DC and Marvel characters (they turn out to be mannequins). But in front of them, you have a topless redhead wielding Captain America's shield!!! The first time I saw this, I absolutely loved it!! It was listed on eBay and I chased it as high as I could afford at the time. I lost. I set a eBay search for it and didn't get a hit for over 3 months. I was working out a deal with a seller in Serbia and asked if he possibly had a copy. He didn't, but he found one for me cheaper than what I was bidding on the other one. He even told me about the storyline. And on the first page, she is pretending to be a mannequin and one of the villains feels her up and comments something to the effect of " Eh, Stiller, see this! This doll is so fashionable! Under my hand feels a bit like real!" And she thinks "a bit like real?" LOL!!! All I know is that it is now mine!!!!

Today, I present EKS #371!! I bought this one as a gift for a comic book collecting friend of mine. He is a huge DD fan and has expressed some interest in Foreign comics. The interior is the story from Daredevil #1. I'm not positive where the EKS cover image comes from. It could come from a panel, a cover from another issue, or it could be original art. Whichever way, at magazine size, it's pretty impressive!!!

Today I'm going with something a little different. And this is one of the reasons I like collecting international comics. I bought this EKS #416 solely because it had a Bigfoot on the cover. The comic came direct to me from Serbia, and it's an EKS comic, so I figured it was an original Serbian comic. I now am 99% certain that I was dead wrong on that one!!! The only thing that is holding me back from 100% is I don't know which issue this story came from. I shared this comic in a Facebook group, and Cecilio (who is a member here also) pointed out that the person in the inset is El Monje Loco, a popular Mexican horror character!! Both "El Monje Loco" (Spanish) and "Ludi Monah" (Serbian), translate into "The crazy monk" or "crazy monk". So, EKS also published original comics from countries other than the USA. This really helped me understand how biased my thinking is. It never occurred to me that a country may want to print comics from any other country than the USA. Collecting foreign comics is MORE than about the comics to me. I learn new things. I expand my own world. I become conscience of how similar we all really are. Some person in Crotia, Brazil, Turkey, Thailand, China, Spain, Norway, Egypt, Israel ... wherever ... is reading a comic similar in tone to the ones I read. The art and language are different, but the pleasure of reading a comic is the same!!! I've included a picture of a El Monje Loco comic that Cecilio shared with me.

Today I'm showing EKS # 445. The interior story is from Tomb of Dracula magazine #6 (Aug, 1980). EKS published their edition in April, 1985. Now, there are some interesting differences between the two. In the TOD, the story is called "A House Divided". In EKS, it is translated as "Annabelle's Curse". This is the only TOD story to feature Annabelle St. John. The cover art is different than the magazine cover, but similar. I will post both to compare. Yet, the EKS cover is NOT from any TOD cover (comic or magazine) that was published prior to this point. It is not a panel from the story inside. From my limited knowledge, I do not see a cover artist named in the indicia. Based on that, it is possible this an original cover. I am not confident in saying that it is, as none of the usual indicators are present one way or another. Regardless, I LOVE this cover and find it quite intriguing.

My last entry, for a bit, in the Wonderful World of EKS, is EKS #374. This is typically what one thinks a foreign edition to be. The cover and interior art come from Master of Kung Fu #89 (Marvel, June, 1980). However, this comic is 48 pages long as opposed to 36, which is what my other EKS editions are. I don't have enough of a sampling or background info on EKS to explain this, yet, but it is a noticeable difference. Besides the Master of Kung Fu story, there are three other stories in this issue. One is a Johnny Hazard, one features a character that looks like a cross between Rambo and Tarzan. The title is "Panter". The third is a kind of sci-fi story that I haven't figured out yet. LOL!!! But at the end, there are three pages of what appears to be an article on Bruce Lee. So, with all that, here is my last EKS comic for a while. I'm already compiling another list, so I don't think it'll be than a month or two before you see me posting more EKS comics here!!! If anyone else has any EKS they would like to share, PLEASE do so!! I'm intrigued by these comics and would love to see more.

Great books and info Jesse!!!!!! Yes, you will find that biases and all sorts of judgment calls you might have had concerning foreign comics go out the window once you dive head first into this niche! I love that Crazy Monk cover.....

Here are my EKS with Bernie Swamp Thing content. I am missing one of the issues with a Swamp Thing cover (#6). Only 4 issues contain Swamp Thing.
