I'm going to chronicle here my hunt for Red Sonja comics and the first issues in different countries. First off, I already have the Marvel #1 which came out in January, 1977. Today I ordered the MACC edition from Mexico off of eBay. They appear to be different issues with the MACC edition predating the Marvel. It came out in mid November, 1976. At first, I wanted to get copies of the Marvel comic, but I'm not even sure if a UK or a Canadian/French edition even exists at this point!!! That's why I decided to go with the first time she appears in a solo comic in a country or a region. The first one I discovered was a Panini Italian edition of Red Sonja (Dynamite). Probably around 2005. I also discovered a Turkish edition of the Dynamite comic by Kilicli (?). And I discover a third Dymaite Red Sonja in French. I might just drop Dynamite an email and see how many countries they gave licences to and which countries they are. That may make for an interesting one issue set. The next one that I found, only mentioned in an article, is a Turkish Red Sonja that came out sometime in the 1990's. I found a #7 for sale, so there HAS to be a #1!! That was printed by Alfa. And finally, there is a Conan/Red Sonja Danish comic printed by Karat-Serien. I'm not sure if I will add it to my list yet or not. This one uses the cover of Marvel's Conan the Barbarian #24.

Ok - I've pretty much decided to NOT chase the more modern RS. The Panini Italian edition, with the "100% Cult" banner is a TPB. I have zero interest in them. And I forgot to mention that the Alfa RS #7 has the cover of Marvel's RS #8, vol.1. So ... the Alfa #1 could potentially be the same cover as the Marvel #1!! THAT excites me!!!

Just learned of a Netherlands and a UK edition!! Thanks Stephane Poitras!! So this make 4 (counting the Marvel issue), possibly 5, editions of this comic!!! And I don't know if Greg Blanch is a member here, but he told me about the Aussie edition.

How about this for a curve ball??!!! A BLONDE Red Sonja!!!! This is the Spanish (as in Spain) Red Sonja #1. It has the story from the 1977 Marvel Red Sonja #1 in it but with a completely different cover!! This makes 5 confirmed, 6 possible, different editions of Red Sonja #1!!!

Thanks Ken!! I forgot to post that I found the Turkish Alfa RS #1. There are 4 different series, each priced differently. They are: 60 Lira, 200 Lira, 250 Lira and then he wrote 500.000 Lira (I'm thinking it is 500 Lira) Anyway, of course I want the first edition (60 Lira). Good news, it is in Very Fine, Very Fine + condition. Bad news, it's more expensive then the other series (but in better condition, according to him). Good news, he is holding it for me until I have the finances available, which should happen this week. But here are the pics.

Today I made my first comic purchase on a foreign marketplace. I felt like I was a kid again!!! It reminded me of when I ordered comics from an ad in a comic book!! I bought a lot of 6 Spanish Red Sonja comics on Todocoleccion!!! I needed help from my friend, Miguel Caro, who lives in Spain. The site is set up totally different from eBay. Everything has a price and you can either agree to that price or make an offer. Thankfully, I found an English speaking fellow comic book collector and he was patient with me. I'll post pictures when I get them.

I .. just .. don't .. understand Tricky at first, but very well worthwhile. Nice one, Jesse.

Yeah ... about auto translating. This is what Todocoleccion sent me. "El vendedor de este lote admite ofertas, ¡Pon tú el precio de venta!". This is how it translated in my email. "The seller of this lot admits offers, put you the sale price!" In other words, he wanted me to make an offer. It took a bit for me to understand that one. Plus, when I went to offer, I had to figure out if you used a period or a comma (it's a period). The reason I thought it might be a comma is because that is how all the prices are displayed to me. Then, the offer function wouldn't take a full price bid!! I had to bid .01 less!!! Thankfully, Miguel was online at the time and helped me sort it all out!! LOL

Latest update. My purchase on todocoleccion was shipped out on the 24th. I had to send two messages to the seller to find this out, but he did respond. There IS a spot on the sold listing for him to do this, but it was not filled out. On the Turkish front, I'll just copy what I left on the FCC page on facebook. This happened today: "Just a tip, if you are searching for any Turkish comics, contact collectybles1 on the American eBay site. Just go to one of his sales and ask a question through there. He helped me with the Red Sonja #1. He was the one to tell me of the different editions and he had several issues in each one of them. He sent me multiple pictures of the one I was interested in. I just bought the Turkish issue from him on eBay. He created a sale just for me when I told him I had the funds. I'll relate back on how well he judged the comic and his packaging and ship time when I receive it. But so far, it has been an educational experience and a pleasure dealing with him. At this point, I'd give him a 5 star rating on communication!!" This was the listing he made. Since I had to put this on pinterest, I blocked out the cost. But it was $50 for the book, $6.99 for shipping. He listed it at $56.99 with free shipping.

Today I received my Australian Red Sonja #1. I got it in a trade with another FCC member on Facebook. My UK edition was delayed in mailing because the eBay seller couldn't find it right away. LOL!!! But it is somewhere between the UK and the USA right now, So, here is the Australian RS #1 plus an updated real size comparison of each that I have so far. I am still searching for a Netherlands edition.
